…As Trans-Warri Access Road Hits 49.5% Completion, Okowa Crescent Nears Finish Line
The Delta State Government has expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of critical road projects under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s infrastructure renewal agenda, with the rehabilitation of the first five kilometres of the Trans-Warri/Ode-Itsekiri Bridges access road attaining 49.5 per cent completion and the construction of Okowa Crescent in Ughelli reaching 99 per cent completion.
Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, disclosed this while inspecting the two projects, describing them as key components of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to delivering durable infrastructure and improving connectivity across the state.
According to Izeze, the rehabilitation of the five-kilometre access road leading to the Trans-Warri/Ode-Itsekiri Bridges project became necessary following years of heavy usage that left the road in a deteriorated condition despite the completion of major sections of the bridge project.
He explained that Governor Oborevwori approved the rehabilitation to ensure that residents and visitors enjoy a seamless driving experience from the Refinery Road axis through Ubeji to Ode-Itsekiri.
“The Governor felt it would not be appropriate to commission a world-class bridge project through a dilapidated access road. That informed the decision to rehabilitate the entire five-kilometre stretch so that the people of Warri, Ubeji, Ode-Itsekiri and neighbouring communities can enjoy smooth and safe transportation,” he said.
The commissioner commended Niger Cat Construction Company, which was awarded the rehabilitation contract in May 2026, for maintaining a satisfactory pace of work and adhering to approved specifications.
He expressed optimism that the project would be completed before the peak of the rainy season, paving the way for its commissioning by Governor Oborevwori.
At Okowa Crescent, off the Ughelli/Patani Expressway in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Izeze said the road project, awarded to Obakpor J.U. Construction Limited in September 2025, had reached 99 per cent completion.
He noted that only minor finishing works and road markings remained before the project would be ready for commissioning.
“We observed just a few finishing touches that need to be completed. Once those are done and the road markings are installed, the project will be ready for commissioning,” he stated.
The commissioner added that all additional works approved by Governor Oborevwori, including drainage improvements, had been executed according to specifications.
Speaking during the inspection of the Trans-Warri access road, Special Project Director of the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges Project, Chief Otimeyin Adams, praised the governor for approving the rehabilitation works.
According to him, the intervention has transformed a previously damaged corridor into a smooth roadway, ensuring that the landmark bridge project can be fully appreciated by commuters and residents.
Also speaking, Majority Leader of the Warri South Legislative Arm and Trust Assistant Secretary of Ifiekporo Community, Hon. Tuoyo Ebigbeyi, described the Trans-Warri/Ode-Itsekiri Road as a strategic economic asset that would unlock development opportunities, boost agriculture and stimulate investments in the area.
He commended Governor Oborevwori for ensuring the completion of the project, saying the road would open up new frontiers for economic growth and improve the lives of residents across the riverine communities.
