Delta Assembly Speaker Meets Service Commission, Assures Action on Requests Made
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to a stronger working relationship with the Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission.
Guwor gave the assurance on Thursday while receiving the Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Sunday Ebireri, and board members on a familiarization visit to his office in Asaba.
Describing the Assembly and the Commission as “partners in progress,” the Speaker said the 8th Assembly remains committed to staff welfare, capacity building, and effective legislative service delivery.
Guwor assured the Commission that its requests, particularly on staff recruitment, overseas training, and inclusion in official government functions, would receive due consideration.
He noted that while Delta Assembly already has the largest workforce among state Assemblies nationwide, noting that the House would look into the manpower gap, especially in salary grade levels 1 to 7, as raised by the Commission.
“Teamwork and cooperation are critical to advancing the goals of the Assembly and strengthening service delivery,” Guwor said.
The Speaker urged the Commission to actively participate in activities marking the 8th Assembly’s 3rd anniversary scheduled for next week.
Earlier, Mr Ebireri briefed the Speaker on challenges facing the Commission, including staff shortages and the need for periodic training.
He appealed for greater inclusion of Commission staff in legislative and government functions.
The Chairman commended the Speaker for approving the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure, CONLESS, and for the ongoing construction of the Commission’s office complex.
He described both actions as significant contributions to the Commission’s efficiency.
Mr Ebireri congratulated Guwor and members of the 8th Assembly ahead of their 3rd anniversary, praising their contributions to legislative development in Delta State.
Present during the visit were Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Arthur Akpowowo, Leader of the House, Hon Emeka Nwaobi, other members of the board of the Commission, the Clerk of the State Assembly, Barr Otos Akpowowo, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Nkem Nwaeke and some management staff of the Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission, including the Secretary, Barr Austin Uwasike.
