The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has invited Miss Jennifer Elohor, the female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member allegedly assaulted by operatives of the state-controlled Agunechemba security outfit, to the Government House in Awka to sympathise with her over the incident. An aide to the First Lady confirmed that Dr. Soludo personally called the corps member to express concern and extend an invitation. However, Elohor explained that she was currently out of the state but promised to honour the invitation once she returned. “The lady was very happy with the humility of the governor’s wife and expressed her willingness to visit her. We are expecting her soon,” the aide said.
The gesture comes after the Anambra State Government announced on Wednesday that the operatives involved in the assault had been arrested. Governor Soludo’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Prince Ken Emeakayi, confirmed that the officers acted while pursuing suspected cultists but admitted their conduct during the search operation was “unacceptable and regrettable.” “As part of our internal conflict-resolution mechanism, the men involved have been arrested. We have also reached out to the victim and her NYSC local government headquarters, and they have visited my office in Awka,” Emeakayi said. Eight security operatives were paraded in Awka on Wednesday and are currently in detention as investigations continue. The governor’s wife had earlier condemned the attack and assured that justice would be served to deter future misconduct.
