The Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, and Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, will tomorrow, Tuesday June 2, flag off a statewide community sensitization campaign.
The campaign, in collaboration with the Delta State Government, is aimed at boosting enrollment of children of school age. It will also target reduction of out-of-school children, and support for nomadic children and children with special needs.
The flag-off ceremony is scheduled for 10:00am at the headquarters of SUBEB, Mariam Babangida Way, Asaba.
A statement signed by SUBEB Executive Chairman, Hon. Samuel Mariere, said the campaign comes ahead of the next admission session into public basic schools across the state.
Hon Mariere, a two-term member of the Delta State Assembly and former Commissioner, said the sensitization is to prepare parents, guardians, and community stakeholders for the enrollment exercise.
The SUBEB boss urged parents to take advantage of government’s free and compulsory basic education policy by enrolling their children and wards, including those with special needs and from nomadic families, when admission opens.
He noted that the education sector has received major attention under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, with ongoing rehabilitation of schools, teacher recruitment, and provision of learning materials.
“Governor Oborevwori is committed to ensuring every Deltan child has access to quality, tuition-free basic education. This sensitization is part of the concerted efforts to ensure that no child is left behind,” Mariere stated.
The Executive Chairman stated that school heads are expected to prepare for the influx of new pupils in the coming academic year and comply with enrollment guidelines.
