The Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, has called on young people to harness the power of social media as a strategic tool for promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Isoko Nation, while also leveraging it to attract meaningful development.
Chief Obiodeh made this appeal yesterday while hosting the winners of the recently concluded Umeh Need Road Isoko Traditional Attire and Music Challenge at his country home in Owodokpokpo-Igbide, Isoko South Local Government Area. The initiative, driven by social media engagement, celebrates indigenous music and traditional attire, providing a platform for youths to showcase their creativity and pride in Isoko culture.
Expressing concern over the gradual erosion of cultural values due to modernization, Chief Obiodeh reaffirmed his commitment, through the Goodnews Emamusi Obiodeh Foundation (GEOF), to sponsor the challenge annually. He noted that the programme encourages young people to perform traditional Isoko songs and showcase cultural attire, thereby keeping the traditions alive.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council, Hon. Warri Friday Ovoke, alongside High Chief Iduh Amadhe and other stakeholders, emphasized the need for youths to utilize social media beyond entertainment. They urged them to project Isoko culture to a global audience, attract the attention of government and investors, and ultimately drive sustainable development in the Isoko Nation.
