The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) risks total collapse if it considers bringing back former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike accused the PDP of refusing to learn from the mistakes that led to its defeat in the 2023 elections.
He recalled warning the party leadership against allowing both the presidential candidate and the national chairman to emerge from the North, describing the move as unjust and politically disastrous.
“From the beginning, I told them: PDP, you are shooting yourselves in the foot. You can’t hold both the presidential ticket and the national chairmanship in one region. But they ignored us, and the result was failure,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor argued that the PDP’s arrogance and disregard for fairness led to its downfall, insisting that power must rotate to the South to restore balance and stability.
He dismissed speculations about Obi’s possible return, saying it would be a dangerous and hypocritical move.
“Bring Obi to where? You want to kill the party? The same Obi who called PDP rotten—so it’s now suddenly good for him? Ambition can drive people anywhere, even to Satan’s house,” he stated.
Wike stressed that such a decision would erode the party’s credibility and destroy its remaining principles.
“If you want to finish the PDP, then bring Obi. That would mean no ideology, no principle—just ambition,” he added.
According to Wike, only equity, justice, and respect for zoning can restore PDP’s relevance on the national stage.
