Aondona Dajoh, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, has resigned from his position, effective August 24, 2025. In a handwritten letter shared on his Facebook page, Dajoh cited the decision was made “in good faith and in the best interest of the state”. He expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the opportunity to serve as “the first among equals” and pledged to continue representing his constituency, Gboko West State Constituency, in the Assembly.
This development comes after a tumultuous period in the Assembly, where four lawmakers who allegedly plotted against Dajoh were suspended for three months. Governor Hyacinth Alia had earlier denied involvement in any attempt to remove Dajoh as Speaker, emphasizing his respect for the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers.
