The recent call by opposition elements for the disbandment of the Agunechemba security outfit is not a policy critique; it is a confession of bankruptcy. This move, far from being a strategic, exposes a political camp so devoid of substantive ideas that it must resort to attacking one of the government’s most needed and effective institutions. It is a desperate gambit that reveals a profound and deepening malaise.
In a state where security remains a paramount concern for citizens, the Agunechemba outfit, working in tandem with other federal security agencies, has become a visible symbol of Soludo’s commitment to safety of lives and property. Its presence has been credited with calming nerves and disrupting criminal networks across communities with lot of success stories including dislodging fake dibias now under prosecution. To call for its dissolution because of few mistakes by one or two of the members in which they were immediately dismissed from service, is not just irresponsible; it is politically suicidal. It demonstrates a recklessness opposition utterly alienated from the daily realities.
The call to ban Agunechemba -a security outfit shouldnt be an action of a responsible citizen. It is the behavior of a fractured and directionless opposition, retreating into the shadows of obstructionism because it has lost the capacity for constructive engagement. Instead of a robust debate on how to help communities and government to optimize security architecture, they offer nihilism. Their empty agenda is now laid bare: to criticize for criticism’s sake, even if it means jeopardizing public safety for a cheap headline. This moment shows their irrelevance, proving they have nothing to offer Anambra but noise and chaos.
