The former Military President of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (GCFR), popularly known as IBB, clocked 84 years on Sunday, drawing streams of goodwill messages from across the country. Among those who paid glowing tribute was the member representing Oshimili South State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. (Barr.) Ifechukwukwu Bridget Anyafulu.
In a heartfelt message issued on behalf of her family and the “good and peace-loving people of Oshimili South,” Hon. Anyafulu described the octogenarian as a national icon, mentor, and elder statesman whose legacy continues to shape Nigeria’s political history.
“Your Excellency, history will forever remember your outstanding and illustrious service to our country as a soldier, statesman and elder statesman. Your generous spirit, love for Nigeria, and dedicated service to our fatherland continue to inspire generations,” she wrote.
The lawmaker went further to acknowledge her personal connection to the elder statesman, expressing gratitude for his mentorship and the guidance she has drawn from his wisdom. “I am honoured and grateful for the privilege and opportunity to have you as a mentor,” she added.
Praying for God’s continued blessings, Hon. Anyafulu wished the former president long life, renewed strength, and good health for more years of fruitful service and inspiration.
General Babangida, who served as Nigeria’s military president between 1985 and 1993, remains one of the country’s most influential political figures, remembered for his role in shaping Nigeria’s modern political architecture.
