Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, recently made a statement claiming that the Labour Party (LP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) are “dead” and “non-existent” in the state. This assertion came after the by-elections, where APGA candidates won overwhelmingly. Soludo attributed the victory to the people’s rejection of the opposition coalition, led by Peter Obi’s allied force.
The by-elections saw APGA’s Emmanuel Nwachukwu winning the Anambra South Senatorial District with 90,408 votes, while Azuka Okwuosa of APC scored 19,847 votes, and Donald Amangbo of ADC garnered 2,889 votes. Similarly, APGA’s Ifeoma Azikiwe won the Onitsha North Constituency 1 by-election.
Soludo’s comments are seen as a jab at Peter Obi, who backed ADC candidates in the by-elections. Obi is seeking to become president in 2027, and Soludo has opposed his single-term bid. It’s worth noting that Soludo is seeking re-election as Anambra governor on the APGA platform in the November 8, 2025, governorship poll.
