According to a report by DAILY POST on Friday, 25 July, ,2025, a strong cautionary advice from Chief Dan Ulasi, a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), directed at opposition leaders. He urged them to approach President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political capabilities with greater seriousness as the 2027 elections draw closer.
Ulasi delivered this caution during an in-depth interview on Africa Independent Television (AIT), where he recounted his own political missteps in trying to counter Tinubu’s growing dominance years ago.
“Disregarding Tinubu is a critical error we made that blunder ourselves and paid for it,” Ulasi stated firmly, warning today’s PDP figures and rival politicians against repeating the same oversight.
He went on to emphasize that Tinubu’s ascension wasn’t by luck but rather the outcome of careful calculation, strategic networking, and consistent long-term planning
Reflecting on his active role in early PDP politics, Ulasi revealed that even with organized attempts to limit Tinubu’s power during his leadership in Lagos State, the opposition was unable to curb his expanding reach.
“We underestimated his playbook and misjudged his preparedness. That miscalculation cost us,” Ulasi noted.
He pointed out that several PDP stakeholders at the time dismissed his alerts regarding Tinubu’s strategic acumen. Now, he fears current opposition members are making the same mistake by neglecting the strength of Tinubu’s political structure.
Ulasi also took aim at what he labeled as inertia and internal discord within the PDP. “We wait too long to act. Tinubu plans far in advance. We scramble when the clock is already ticking down,” he said.
He called on the PDP to return to foundational organizing, foster credible and consistent leadership, and abandon over-reliance on rushed, last-minute tactics.
