The Ndokwa Neku Union, the apex socio-cultural body of the Ndokwa people, led by its President General, Chief Amechi Asugwuni, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Michael Anoka, at his office in Asaba.
During the visit, the delegation warmly congratulated the Commissioner on his new role and described it as a proud moment for the entire Ndokwa nation.
They appreciated His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for finding their son worthy of such an important office, describing it as divine assignment.
Speaking on behalf of the Ndokwa people, the Union expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s efforts in positively empowering Ndokwa youths, elders, women, and students across various institutions.
They noted that his leadership has brought hope and encouragement to many in the area.
However, the Union raised a major concern affecting the Ndokwa nation, the issue of electricity. They lamented that despite hosting one of the biggest power generating facilities in the country, Ndokwa communities still suffer from poor and unstable power supply.
According NNU, they said the long-standing issue has caused serious agitation and protests among the people over the years.
Ndokwa Neku Union commended the Delta State Governor for transforming the state into a construction site through ongoing development projects, while appealing to the Ministry of Energy to urgently attend to the pressing electricity needs of Ndokwa land.
Responding, the Honourable Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Michael Anoka, warmly welcomed the delegation and appreciated their visit.
He said that as an Ndokwa son, he fully understands how important electricity is to the people and the development of the area.
He explained that the power project in Ndokwa is largely a Federal Government project, but assured the Union that he would formally relay their concerns and requests to His Excellency, the Governor, to explore how the Delta State Government can intervene and support improved power supply in Ndokwa communities.
The Commissioner promised to deliver their message to the Governor and reaffirmed the readiness of the Governor Oborevwori administration to explore ways to ensure that the issue of electricity in Ndokwa Nation and any other parts of Delta State is resolved.
