Fostering Hopes Foundation (FHF), one of Delta State’s recognised non-governmental organisations dedicated to child protection and development, has celebrated the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child with students of Ibusa Girls’ School on Monday, October 12, 2026.
The event was an opportunity to boost the morale of the students, with the Foundation highlighting the United Nations’ theme for the 2026 celebration: “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights.”
The theme was explored in detail by renowned child rights advocate and legal expert, Barr. Dora Enwelikwu, who delivered a lecture on issues affecting girls and the responsibilities they must embrace as they transition into adulthood.
Her presentation highlighted key aspects of girls’ development, emphasising the importance of understanding their rights, making responsible choices, and preparing for the challenges and opportunities of adulthood.
The Principal of the school, Mrs. F. C. Ajufo, expressed delight at the Foundation’s show of care and commitment to the well-being of the students. She appealed to Fostering Hopes Foundation to consider the school for future programmes and activities.
The school’s Head Girl also delivered a vote of thanks to the Foundation, expressing appreciation for the initiative. She encouraged her fellow students to put the lessons learnt into practice for their personal growth and well-being.
The highlight of the programme was the distribution of sanitary pads to the girls and their teachers, an initiative aimed at promoting menstrual health, personal hygiene, and overall well-being among the students.
