The Olomoro Council of Chiefs in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State has passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the member representing Isoko South II Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. (Chief) Ferguson Ajiroghene Onwo, PhD, KSC.
The council endorsed their candidacy for the 2027 general elections as well as all other candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the electoral contests.
The endorsement was made on Sunday, August 23, 2026, during a gathering of the Council of Chiefs, community leaders, elders and stakeholders at the palace of the Odio-Ologbo of Olomoro Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Abraham Atatobe Agboro.
A motion for the adoption of President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, Hon. Onwo and other APC candidates was moved and seconded by chiefs of the kingdom, after which the State APC Vice Chairman and Chairman of the party in Delta South Senatorial District, Prince Emmanuel Amgbadugba, conducted a voice vote.
The gathering overwhelmingly supported the motion, prompting Amgbadugba to declare, “The Ayes have it”, signaling growing grassroots momentum for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC Vice Chairman commended the traditional ruler, the Council of Chiefs and the people of Olomoro for their support, describing the resolutions as a clear expression of confidence in the APC and its candidates ahead of 2027.
Prince Amgbadugba also thanked the Council for demonstrating love and solidarity towards Hon. Onwo and for extending the same support to other APC candidates, including the President and the Governor.
Hon. Onwo, accompanied by his massive supporters and associates, had paid a courtesy visit to the Odio-Ologbo, where he received royal blessings after formally declaring his intention to seek re-election to the Delta State House of Assembly.
The lawmaker, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Health, pledged to consolidate the achievements of his first two terms in the Assembly, stressing that there was still more to be achieved in the constituency.
Hon. Onwo expressed appreciation to the Council of Chiefs for the honour done him, describing his adoption and other APC candidates for the 2027 general elections as unprecedented in his political journey across Isoko Nation.
He expressed confidence that Isoko South II constituency would deliver a “5 over 5”victory for APC in 2027, attributing the support to unity among political leaders and government achievements in workers’ welfare and grassroots development.
The lawmaker urged APC members to remain united, intensify grassroots mobilisation and work collectively to secure victory for all the party’s candidates.
In his remarks, the Odio-Ologbo of Olomoro Kingdom, HRM Abraham Atatobe Agboro, prayed for the victory of President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, Hon. Onwo and other APC candidates.
Several APC top politicians, including the Chairman, Isoko South Local Government Council, Hon. Warri Ovoke, Isoko South Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Ekelega, a leader of the APC in Isoko Nation, High Chief Lucky Esigie, and the President General of Olomoro Community, Chief Anthony Ukpagba, were present at the event.
In a related development, Hon. Onwo, who serves as Deputy Chairman of the Delta State House Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas, earlier in the week, led the Chairman and other members of the Committee on an on-the-spot assessment visit to the site of the OML 30 oil spillage at Uzere.
Upon arrival, the committee was received by the Heritage Energy and Gas Project Management team who led the lawmakers to the source of the spill for a firsthand assessment of the damage and its impact on the environment and host community.
Addressing youths of Uzere, Hon. Onwo commended them for their peaceful and responsible disposition despite the adverse effects of the spill.
He noted that their cooperation demonstrated the importance of dialogue and peaceful engagement in addressing issues affecting host communities.
The committee urged Heritage Energy and other relevant stakeholders to take prompt measures to mitigate the effects of the spill, protect the environment and engage meaningfully with the host community in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA.
The Delta State House Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas led by Hon Festus Utuama reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the environment, safeguarding the interests of host communities and promoting responsible oil and gas operations across the state.
Other members of the present during the assessment visit were the member representing Ndokwa East, Ughelli North I and Isoko South I Constituencies, Hon. Emeka Osamuta, Hon. Matthew Omonade and Hon. Bino Obowomano Owhede respectively.
