In a vibrant show of solidarity, the staff of the Delta State House of Assembly and Commission today joined their counterparts across Delta State and indeed the world in commemorating this year’s Workers’ Day celebration, held in Asaba.
Mobilized in impressive numbers by the leadership of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), the delegation was led by the association’s chairman, Comrade Epebitimi Richard Appah, with strong support from his predecessor, Comrade Emmanuel Edozie. Their enthusiastic turnout underscored their commitment to the welfare and dignity of workers in the legislative arm.
Their presence at the celebration was warmly acknowledged by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, who commended the staff for their unwavering dedication, professionalism, and hard work. Also present was the Clerk of the House, Barrister Otto Aghoghophia, who joined in honoring the valuable contributions of the Assembly staff.
The event, which was graced by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, ably represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, highlighted the indispensable role of workers in the socio-economic development of the state. In his address, the Deputy Governor emphasized the need for continued commitment toward building a Delta State and a Nigeria where every worker is respected, empowered, and adequately rewarded.
“Let us march forward, stronger together, toward a brighter and more prosperous future,” he declared. “Our doors remain open for dialogue, as we firmly believe that collaboration with workers’ unions is the path to sustainable progress.”
A major highlight of the celebration was the colorful and spirited march-past parade by various trade unions, showcasing unity, pride, and the enduring spirit of the Nigerian worker.
