Piqued by the continuous impeachment threat against Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Leaders Forum has called on the National Assembly to intervene by taking over the legislative functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the forum expressed concern over what it described as persistent political instability and legislative intimidation in the state. It noted that the repeated impeachment moves against the governor were capable of undermining democratic governance and disrupting peace in Rivers State.
The APC Leaders Forum urged the National Assembly to invoke Section 11 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers it to assume legislative duties in any state where the House of Assembly is unable to function effectively.
According to the group, such an intervention would help restore order, protect democratic institutions, and ensure that governance continues without unnecessary distractions. The forum reaffirmed its support for Governor Fubara and called on all political actors to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and the rule of law in the interest of the people.
