Team Edo has arrived in Delta State with over 300 athletes to participate in the 9th National Youth Games, signaling their determination to make a strong impact at the prestigious youth sporting festival.
The contingent, led by the Edo State Sports Commission, is set to compete across various sporting disciplines as the Games officially kick off in Asaba.
Speaking ahead of the opening events, Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Enabulele, expressed confidence in the athletes’ preparation and readiness to deliver outstanding performances.
“Team Edo is well-prepared and determined to excel,” Enabulele declared. “Our athletes must imbibe a winning mentality in every aspect of their participation. They are not just representing themselves, but the entire Edo people. They must be worthy ambassadors—on and off the field—while aiming for gold.”
The chairman reminded the athletes that the National Youth Games is not only about medals but also about discipline, teamwork, and personal growth, urging them to uphold the values of sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Team Edo, one of the traditional powerhouses in Nigerian sports, is expected to be among the top contenders at the Games, given its history of producing outstanding athletes who have gone on to shine nationally and internationally.
